Sóc Trăng Province: Over 16,000 hectares of shrimp stocked, estimated production reaches 35,500 tons

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to the Sóc Trăng Department of Fisheries, as of May 23, localities in the province have stocked more than 16,000 hectares of shrimp farms, with shrimp farming area loss accounting for 1.8% of the stocked area; the estimated harvest production is 35,500 tons.

Currently, it is the peak season for shrimp stocking in 2025, with shrimp continuing to be stocked in key shrimp farming areas across the province. In Cù Lao Dung district, the stocking area has reached nearly 2,300 hectares, with an estimated 3% loss due to diseases such as white feces syndrome, microsporidiosis, and acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease. Shrimp farmers in Cù Lao Dung have been granted core farming codes for 695 hectares, accounting for nearly 41% of the area.

At this time, shrimp are highly susceptible to diseases, so farmers need to pay special attention to environmental factors in the farming ponds.

In 2025, Sóc Trăng province plans to stock 51,000 hectares of brackish water shrimp, with an estimated production of 223,000 tons. Among these, black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) will cover 12,700 hectares (estimated production of 24,500 tons) and whiteleg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) about 38,300 hectares (estimated production of 198,500 tons).

The province is implementing the 2025 Brackish Water Shrimp Development Project, aiming to develop stable production plans, maintain and increase the export value of brackish water shrimp through responsible practices, enhancing productivity and quality.
